It is with great sadness that we announce our very close YMCA friend, member, volunteer and donor—Robert H. Lee—passed away on February 19, 2020. On behalf of everyone at the Y who knows and loves Robert, we want to express our deepest condolences to the entire Lee Family.
Robert was a significant leader in our YMCA. It was more than 55 years ago when Bob first joined the Downtown YMCA. In 2010, Bob gave back to the Y he had come to love by donating to the Robert Lee YMCA—a centre of community in his name that welcomes thousands of people each year. Bob is also the Honorary Chair of the What Really Matters Capital Campaign and we will continue to honour him as we help more people to reach their potential. His legacy lives on through the many children and families in our community that he has strengthened through his generous philanthropic efforts.
We are especially mindful of his loving wife, Lily, and his four children, Carol, Derek, Leslie and Graham. Our thoughts and condolences are with them as they grieve this great loss.
His passion for healthy living and our community lives on through our members who get to benefit from his generous philanthropic efforts. We are recognizing Mr. Lee through a small display at the Robert Lee YMCA and invite members to express their gratitude in a memory book in the atrium. The flag atop our centre is also flying half-mast as we grieve alongside the Lee family. Thank you for everything, Bob. We will miss you.
