YMCA BC staff were thrilled to welcome a special visitor to the Bettie Allard YMCA in mid-May: Premier David Eby.

On May 16, we proudly provided a tour of the brand-new centre of community to Premier Eby and the Hon. Selina Robinson, Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills and MLA for Coquitlam-Maillardville, to showcase the facility’s key features and amenities.

Representatives from our project partners, the City of Coquitlam and Concert Properties, were also on hand, including Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart and members of city council. Having all partners gathered for the tour allowed an opportunity to brief the visiting government leaders on the effective partnership and identify the key funders who made this fantastic piece of community infrastructure a reality.

Later in the day, the Premier could also be seen addressing the media outside the front door of the Bettie Allard YMCA as part of an announcement celebrating the affordable homes included in the now-completed purpose-built rental tower 55one, constructed by Concert Properties and located adjacent to the Y as part of the Heart of Burquitlam master-planned community.

Though the Bettie Allard YMCA and 55one are now completed, Concert’s work continues on Myriad, the condo high-rise that is also a key piece of the Heart of Burquitlam. We are honoured to have worked alongside great partners in the City of Coquitlam and Concert Properties and are excited to serve this growing community for many years to come.
