The Real Construction Story of the Chilliwack Y

As with any renovation project, the construction of the new Chilliwack YMCA has been nothing short of eventful. While we’ve made tremendous progress over the past few months, there have been some challenges. So, here’s the real construction story of the Chilliwack Y:

  • As a charity that opens its doors to all, we have no actual doors to open! The aluminum doors for the entry are stuck in production.
  • The signage which includes the building’s address was forgotten.
  • In the City of Chilliwack, we are third on the list to lay asphalt and we need to wait until the weather is dry and temperatures in B.C. rise—in winter!
  • When we dug up the pool, we discovered that the sub-pump was installed in part with the help of a plastic peanut butter jar. (Talk about being resourceful!)

If you have followed along this far in the story, you’ll know that construction is a complicated process. The hundreds of people working on this are making it happen as accurately, quickly and efficiently as possible. We are so grateful to them.

In 2019, the new Chilliwack YMCA will be reopening—doors and all. We thank you for your patience and look forward to welcoming you in 2019.
